Band bio - Christy Moore

Tickets go on sale this Friday 16th September for popular Irish folk singer, songwriter, and guitarist Christy Moore's return to Cardiff to play the Wales Millennium Centre on April 2 next year as part of his UK tour (tickets 02920 63 6400 and www.seetickets.com wwwticketmaster.com and www.wmc.org.uk).

It is five years since Christy last played Cardiff, and once again he will bring his contemporary treatment of traditional Irish music, adding elements of rock and popular music to his well-crafted, tradition-based tunes, that over the years has inspired such Irish artists as U2, Sinead O'Connor and the Pogues. Christy will be accompanied at the Wales Millennium Centre by the acclaimed Irish musician and producer Declan Sinnott.

Christy achieved fame as one of the founding members of Planxty and Moving Hearts, and in 2007 he was named Ireland's Greatest Living Musician in RTÉ's People of the Year Awards.

The concert is being promoted by Wales' largest independent music promoter Orchard Entertainment, which is staging some 200 gigs over the next year. Orchard Director Pablo Janczur said: "Christy Moore is a huge name in Irish music, and there is a big following for him amongst his Celtic cousins over here. I'm sure there will be strong demand for tickets."
